A notable Arctic event occurred in August 2026 when a colossal iceberg broke away from the Petermann Glacier in Greenland. Covering an area of over 76 square kilometers, this was the largest glacier calving in the Arctic region since 2020.

The massive ice sheet, after detaching from the glacier, began a drifting journey. At one point, the iceberg collided with Joe Island. Despite the impact, the ice structure showed remarkable resilience, remaining intact and not fragmenting.

Currently, the iceberg is under constant monitoring. Satellites track its movement as it continues its course through the Nares Strait. The trajectory of this ice giant is being closely observed as it advances across the region.
