On Monday, Atlético Nacional will face Deportivo Cali in a single-leg Copa Colombia match and, simultaneously, has launched a campaign for fans to watch the game in the shops surrounding the Atanasio Girardot Stadium. The initiative aims to support merchants who depend on fan movement on match days.

Campaign to Support Atanasio Vendors

The club released a video and visual pieces on social media inviting fans to “watch the game together, around the Atanasio, and support the merchants.” The invitation emphasizes that, although the stands are empty, “there are people who need us more than ever.” The goal is for fans to share the moment with family and friends in the area's shops, keeping the “Verdolaga” atmosphere alive “from the outside.”

Context of the Clash Against Deportivo Cali

The confrontation will decide the second qualifier for the Copa Colombia quarterfinals. The format of this stage, altered after the August 10 earthquake, stipulates that the match will be single-leg, with no return game, and the winner will advance in the tournament.

Cali Coach's Stance on the Match

Rafael Dudamel, head coach of Deportivo Cali, stated that he does not see the game as a definitive test for his continuity at the club. According to him, institutional support remains firm, and the club remains convinced of the ongoing sports project. Dudamel also highlighted that, although the opponent is the same as in recent league clashes, the match has “very distinct elements due to being a direct elimination game.”

Tactical Challenges and Possible Developments

Dudamel explained that the team has prepared for different scenarios, including the possibility of extra time or a penalty shootout, requiring planning for details that are not usually relevant in league matches. He also acknowledged the need to improve collective consistency and defensive performance when the team does not have possession of the ball.

Impact of the Campaign on the Local Community

Atlético Nacional's initiative strengthens the relationship between the club and local commerce, reminding that many vendors live off football and the passion of the fans. By encouraging supporters to watch the game in the shops, the club seeks to generate economic flow and keep alive the tradition of the “hinchada que nunca abandona” (the fan base that never abandons them), even when the stands remain empty.
